College is...

So...the urge to write has struck me again. I've nicely settled in and begun adjusting to college life. I love this school and feel incredibly blessed to be here. I also feel like I got very lucky with my roommates. I've been enjoying trying new things, learning tons of new things about the world from my very cool professors, and overall figuring out what it's like to live on my own. Now that we got the boring stuff out of the way, I'm going to make this post about what college at BYU is like on a daily basis. So here we go!

College is...
Exploring campus at night (this involves me running into trees and my roommate making puns)
Eating a bowl of cereal at midnight while listening to flute concertos
Enjoying the copious amounts of cute guys that I see while working
Having small existential crises when I have over 100 pages of reading to do
Begging my brother nearly every day to send me pictures of my dog
Getting asked to play the piano for EVERYTHING
Listen to my balding American Heritage professor read Twilight aloud to prove a point
Running across campus late at night with my roommates to get chocolate milk before the Creamery closes
Complaining about the school WiFi nearly 24/7
Hearing people speak in about 12 different languages on my way to class

I hope you enjoyed those few tidbits from my life at college so far!

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone...

Hiya! This blog is going to be for friends, family, and anyone else who enjoys reading the sarcastic comments of an awkward 17-year-old who is attending Brigham Young University. I hope you enjoy reading about my failures as much as my successes, because I will probably prove that it's possible to make stupid mistakes even without alcohol (BYU is the no. 1 most sober campus). Anyway, the time is about to come for me to move out and leave behind my family, best friends, and pretty much everything I've known for the past six years. No big deal.
I can say with one hundred percent certainty that in 9 days I will not miss my mom's random singing or my dad's jokes. I definitely am not going to miss laughing til I cry with my siblings or late night Steak n' Shake runs with my squad. I will not miss my high school or my job or any of the other things that I am used to seeing on a daily basis.

(Okay I'll admit, that entire paragraph was a lie.)

Despite the fact that I'd love to pretend I have no feelings, I really am going to miss everyone and everything that I love here in Ohio. I have to admit that it's going to be really hard to move away (1,748 miles to be exact). But that's not a bad thing. I'm so grateful for the people and experiences I've had in my life because they're truly what made me my quirky, ambitious self. As a Pinterest addict, it would be impossible to not live by a quote I see on there so frequently--"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Yes it's ridiculously cheesy, I know, but it's still good advice.
I am going to my dream school. I can remember being on the campus at seven years old and saying "This is where I'm gonna go." Well now I've made it, I've accomplished that life-long goal. So when I leave Ohio I will take all the wonderful memories with me, and go after my dreams.

Thanks for reading and go Cougars!

L'automne est arrivé

Untitled #193

Untitled #193 by emmaobarr featuring a white tank

Hello to anyone who reads this blog! I'm thinking about actually getting serious and turning this into a legitimate blog with the help of some people who are a lot better at computers than I am. I'm very busy because I'm a senior this year and it's the middle of marching band season, but I really want to have a successful blog. So for now, here is an outfit I've created on Polyvore for the cooldown that the weathermen have promised this week.

Modest is the Hottest

Today I've decided to round up some of my favorite modest clothing websites for you. Yep, you read that right, modest. I know being modest isn't exactly the popular thing to do, but I think there's definitely something to be said for a woman, of any age, who respects herself enough to wear modest clothing. Anyway, enough with my spiel. Here are my favorite modest websites!
Shabby Apple has some fabulously cute skirts and dresses, and all are completely modest. Some of the items can be a bit pricey, though, so I always look to their sale for something a little closer to what I can afford.
I would say that Down East is very similar to Shabby Apple, so if you need more options, go here!
I like Eshakti because it is pretty unique. It let's you choose the length, sleeve length, and neckline of most of their dresses, so you can take a dress that's immodest and alter it to fit your standards.
Lime Ricki is a good place to find this year's swimsuit! All of their swimsuits manage to be modest while still being extremely cute and flirty.

Anyway, looking at swimsuits inspired me to create some outfits for spring break. Even though it's still five weeks away, and it's -3 outside, there's nothing wrong with dreaming.

Clothing Haul: Thrift Store

I got the opportunity to spend the day with one of my close friends today. We found a lot of super cute thrifted items, so I just wanted to show you the newest editions to my closet! I love buying used clothing because it gives me an opportunity to get creative when styling unique pieces, and I also know that when I show up wearing a shirt to school, five other girls won't be wearing the exact same thing. It's kind of fun knowing you own something completely different from everyone else! Not to mention, you spend considerably less money.

This button-up has a really beautiful lace collar, and I think it would look really nice tucked into an a-line skirt.
I actually got this one at Old Navy today, because who can resist cheap graphic t-shirts?
This is basically a combination of two of my favorite things; cozy knits and stripes! Black and white also make this a very classy piece that I'm excited to wear!
Hmm...looks a little familiar doesn't it? I just can't get enough of stripes. But who can blame me, they're a staple in every wardrobe. Take advantage of this long weekend to have some retail therapy!

Style Icon: Alexa Chung

I thought it would be really fun to make a post once in a while about the people who give me some major inspiration and have influenced my personal style. A lot of other people also look to Alexa Chung for inspiration and it's not hard to see why. Her fun, quirky outfits manage to make her look exciting but classy at the same time. Here are a few of her stunning ensembles that I will forever wish I could afford.

Cream with envy

With all the crazy weather we've been having lately, I might have an excuse to pick up another sweater or two. I really love the cream chunky knits that I've seen everywhere lately. One of the best ways to style a neutral is to add a pop of color! Since marsala is the color of the year, I think the perfect way to wear one of these sweaters is with marsala pants, riding boots, and some classy accessories. I also wanted to include a picture of my hairstyle today! I just did a small French braid to the back of my head, then gathered all my hair into a ponytail.
